It's possible that the clock on the KVM machine is running slow.   You can
check that by comparing the elapsed time from a different machine

   eg time ssh <host> sh -c 'time a.out'

The elapsed (real) times reported should be very similar, the time for ssh
may be a few milliseconds longer, but not much more.
