I've got this new Western Digital MyBook 500GB external hard drive, but when I plug it in, it's not recognized correctly. There doesn't seem to be any corresponding devices in /dev/. It looks like some errors:

dmesg gives:

usb 3-1: device descriptor read/8, error -75

usb 3-1: device descriptor read/8, error -75
usb 3-1: device descriptor read/8, error -75
usb 3-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 4

/sbin/lsusb gives:

Bus 004 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 003 Device 004: ID 0928:ffff Oxford Semiconductor, Ltd
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

I'm running Fedora Core 4.

Try a different (early) kernel. I seem to remember getting those errors
with some kernels. ---gary

hmm.. trying a bunch of old kernels to get this working is not exactly what I'd like to do... Well, if anyone uses this drive, or knows what that error means, please let me know.

Thanks.
