F8 remote X display (lack thereof)

I am trying to get LTSP 4.2 working with this F8 x86_64 setup, but haven't
managed to get a gdm display up on my terminal. I just get the infamous grey
screen with a black X in the center.

In the process of investigating this problem, I tried this from another "real"
computer on my network:

 X :1 -query 192.168.0.2

It's my understanding that I should then see my gdm login screen.

However, I got the same grey screen with the X that I see on my terminal.
Therefore, I don't think I have a problem with LTSP as such; it's a problem
with remote X sessions.

This is what I saw on the console:

After hitting ctrl-alt-backspace to exit the X session that didn't start, I got
this on the console:

FreeFontPath: FPE "unix/:7100" refcount is 2, should be 1; fixing.

What's wrong here? My remote X can't find a font server that it's expecting?
Or something else?

Most importantly, how can I fix it?
