[rhn-users] printer testing

I have a printer that may be broken and I want to test it. I am running
RHEL 3. The printer is an HP LaserJet 5L (a parallel printer). It is my
understanding that the simplest way to test it is to plug it in and send
a text file to /dev/lp0 using "cat" without any intermediate steps.
(i.e. enter "cat test.txt>/dev/lp0" at the command prompt without doing
any configuration.) If the file doesn't print, the printer is broken. Am
I right?

Craig.
