[rhn-users] RE: rhn-users Digest, Vol 14, Issue 27kernel compication

first of all u have to download ur desired kernel from www.kernel.org
once it is downloaded
extract it into /usr/src folder
go to respective kernel source folder
use any of following command
make menuconfig -- > for text mode selection
make xconfig
make gconfig


before doing this make sure that u have through knowledge about ur hardware 
(e.g display card/lan card/sound card/usb....)

select the appropriate hardware from the configuration window
save the changes & come out

use make bzImage for the compressed kernel
make modules
make modules_install
make install

its done...
if u have choosen right hardware then ur kernel will definately boot
