While this is not a solution, try burning the rpm files to a thumb 
drive or CD and do the conventional " rpm -Uvh *.* " and "walk" them 
through a few systems.  Based on your success/failure, " rpm 
http://yourtrustedlocalwebserver/.../file.rpm " - this is of course
a workaround while you're troubleshooting your original problem.  BTW,
if failures occur during an ordinary " rpm -i or rpm -U " consider
the -vv switch for more information. FWIW.
