Can you please paste the results of:
$ cat /etc/rpm/platform
It should say:
x86_64-redhat-linux
instead of:
i686-redhat-linux
if you did install the x86_64. x86_64 will allow you to install the
i386 version of the software and you may be inadvertently running that
architecture.
