I've also thought about this, but decided to let Openstack mature some 
more for the moment, so I have no results to speak of.
My idea was to use Gluster's NFS server capability with Cinder's NFS 
driver[1], so basically files on Gluster NFS shares, no block level 
stuff; maybe use round-robin or some other sort of load balancing with 
it.
