Easiest to check, and likeliest to fix, is
	0) rpm-4.2 (which already uses db-4.1.24)
which should just build from CVS top of stack.

I'm interested in seeing whether changes in db-4.1.24 fix (or change)
what you seeing.

The likeliest explanation (at least all I can think of), is that the header
blob returned from rpmdb may be sensitive to cache changes.

Dunno, just an idle guess, have no other information regarding problems.
