I grabbed the following:
popt-1.6.4-6x-21.i386.rpm
rpm-4.0.4-6x-21.i386.rpm
rpm-4.0.4-6x-21.src.rpm
rpm-build-4.0.4-6x-21.i386.rpm
rpm-devel-4.0.4-6x-21.i386.rpm
rpm-python-4.0.4-6x-21.i386.rpm

done, no problems, no errors, no output that I saw at all

By this do you mean
 a)put all the .i386.rpm's from above in one directory
 b)rpm -Uvh *.rpm
