Why not just put the tarballs out there in the first place?  If it's so "easy" to obtain them from the source RPM (given that you have the script, and that your cpio is compatible with RPMs), then it certainly can't be much more effort to simply stick a tarball in the distro directory along with the source RPM.  That would also save people trying to use it time and effort trying to figure out how to get the tarball from the RPM, whether or not in times past a script was posted that can extract them.
