Re: [Sound] audio cd problems

Don't mean to butt in, but I've been through the same.

Before you go to the trouble of opening up your box, you might want to ensure you have your speaker cables attatched properly (since the sBLive has multiple output jacks).  If you're looking at the back of the box, the jacks on the SBLive are:

joystick     rear out     line out     mic in     rear in     digital out

I get best results by connecting my speakers to line out.

(By using the ALSA drivers, I also have no problems with the headphone jack, on the front bay.)

I have tried looking for help in various newbie linux forums but I have found
no solution to my problem thus far.

I am running RedHat 7.3. I have a SBLive Platinum Drive sound card. System
sounds and mp3's come out of my speakers fine. I cannot play an audio cd. I
can mount and view data cd's fine. The volume in Kmix for CD's is up and not
muted. I cannot play audio cd's as root. Kscd will show the cd as playing
but their will be no sound. I downloaded emu-tools but have no idea how to
use it.

Anybody who could finally solve this problem for me would be a lifesaver.
Thank you.

Sounds a bit like the cable that goes from the CD-ROM to the sound
card is not connected. You will have to open up the box and check.
Unless you also dual-boot Windows on the same box. Then you could
verify that the audio CDs work under Windows first.
