Is it at all possible that your are on x86_64 machine?

If that is true, is it possible that you are installing x86_64
oracle-lib-compat, but instead of having the 64bit version of
oracle-instantclient-sqlplus-10.2.0.4-1, you have i386 version
installed?

If that is true, will installing x86_64 version of the
oracle-instantclient-sqlplus package fix the problem?
