E'string' is the escaped bytea string representation, there's nothing
wrong with it. See
http://www.postgresql.org/docs/current/static/datatype-binary.html for
the details. Unfortunately that 114 char is just reference to the
beginning of bytea string which has something wrong inside.  Try 'od -c
/root/.bashrc' on your client to see whether there is a weird char or
not.
