I haven't tried it, but you could probably use the remote command utilities:

Good Morning Pierce!

I can use yum install --security from the client.
But, we can to try setup a method to update security patches on multiple servers by grouping them as Dev, QA, Prod, etc.

Can we use this "yum --security (any options)" to run from the spacewalk server to update a list of client systems?

"If you install the 'yum-security' plugin you can update by errata type from the CLI (e.g. yum list-sec)."

Please advice,
Thank you again!

Hello:

I'm trying to install a Red Hat Spacewalk server, however when I tried to use spacewalk repo I get this problem:

[root at slm011 ~]# yum update
Loaded plugins: product-id, refresh-packagekit, rhnplugin, subscription-manager Updating certificate-based repositories.
rhel-6-server-cf-tools-1-rpms
| 2.6 kB     00:00
rhel-6-server-rpms
| 3.7 kB     00:00
http://spacewalk.redhat.com/yum/1.7/RHEL/6/x86_64/repodata/repomd.xml:
[Errno 14] PYCURL ERROR 7 - "couldn't connect to host"
Trying other mirror.
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository:
spacewalk. Please verify its path and try again

Proxy is set it up in /etc/yum.conf

http_proxy=http://xxxxxxx:8080
https_proxy=http://xxxxxx:8080
(xxxx are real ip's)

Any idea?

Thanks.

Ruben.

Hi Spacewalk Gurus,

Can you please guide me on how to apply security patches only on a selected system?

1. I see that we can select the systems and then manually select (select check-box) the security erratas

Is there a automatic way to select all security patches via GUI/browser or command-line?
Command-line, I would prefer run from spacewalk server i.e. push to client system method

Please advice,
Thank you in advance!

If you install the 'yum-security' plugin you can update by errata type from the CLI (e.g. yum list-sec).

>From the spacewalk gui you can use system set manager to update all errata, but I don't know if you can specify by errata type. I know if you select an individual server and click on errata, you can select the type there and then "apply errata" on a server-by-server basis.
