[Spacewalk-list] Problem running spacewalk-repo-sync against a local rsync mirror

I made an rsync mirror of the updates repositories (security and
fastbugs) for Scientific Linux 6.3 x86_64, as such:

rsync -avr rsync://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/scientific/6.3/x86_64/updates
/home/mirrors/ScientificLinux/6.3/x86_64/

and the mirroring operation seems to work fine (the RPMs look fine,
and to double check, I wiped the repodata directory and forced a resync).

When running spacewalk-repo-sync against the same remote site, it works:

However, doing the same with the local copy fails:

(if I did not specify -f, it would fail for every package and finish
in less than a minute).

Is this a known problem? I could try setting up a local web or FTP
server, and see if accessing it via HTTP or FTP would work, but that
seems silly.

I tried setenforce 0 too, on the off chance this is a SELinux-related
problem, but that's not the case.

Any idea what could be causing this, and what workaround I should try?
