I checked out the latest act, made a branch, imported your patch, and 
exported PYTHONPATH and PYTHONLIB to be /home/bkearney/src/act/

/home/bkearney/src/act/tools/appliance-creator -n ec2 -c 
ec2Appliance-f9.ks --appliancetype=EC2 -t /root/cache/
