Wrong terminology adds much to the confusion here:

  source rpm := .src.rpm

  binary rpm := .i?86.rpm, .athlon.rpm,
                and .other_platform.rpm (e.g. SPARC, m68k)

  platform-indepedent binary rpm := noarch.rpm
  
So, the kernel-source-2.4.18-*.i386.rpm is a _binary rpm_ and
often referred to as the kernel-source rpm. ;)

Doesn't make it a "source rpm", though. That would be the
kernel-2.4.18-*.src.rpm.
