[vfio-users] amd rx480 invalid rom contents

Hi,

depending on the Polaris being a reference card, the Bios may be
actually passed through from AMD itself. Sapphire told me that, when I
was complaining about exactly your issue with an RX480 reference card
from them. Since I bricked it the first time, I had a reference bios
from sysfs, that was 56 K bigger. The Bios basically had no EFI rom,
so that it was booting in VGA mode instead. I compared the rom files and
the second one was indeed just cut off while being identical to the
other one so far. So the vBios being bricked by the manufacturr should
be also kept in mind.

If you don’t want to loose your warranty, the appropriate way would be
to send it into retoure. Reflashing the rom is trivial for
manufacturers, which is the reason for their fairness when receiving
bricked cards as long as they were not overclocked. Unfortunately I
caused a short circuit, shortly before sending it in, but received a
credit item from the reseller. Attempting to use it for Vega instead. ;)

Best regards,
Manuel
