Red Hat highlights NFV, open telco, and cloud for telcos at next week’s OpenStack Summit

Join Red Hat this week at OpenStack Summit, May 21-24, 2018, in Vancouver, BC. We will be presenting on a variety of telecommunications topics including network functions virtualization (NFV), creating an open telco model, cloud-native applications, and more. Red Hat’s Margaret Dawson, vice president of portfolio product marketing, will also be presenting at the Women of OpenStack Networking Lunch, sponsored by Red Hat, on Wednesday, May 23 at 12:30 p.m.

There are also a number of sessions that are relevant to Telco and related digital transformation projects. We’ve curated a short list of sessions of interest below, but be sure to check our trail map on the NFV tab of our OpenStack Summit site. And make sure to stop by our booth A19 to check out our latest demos or just say hello!

Upcoming Telco Events in North America

Red Hat will be hosting or present at several events in North America over the next few months. As always, stop by to chat with our subject matter experts and hear about how Red Hat is helping communication service providers with their digital transformation projects. We look forward to you joining us there!

2018: The year of open source networking for CSPs

The communications service provider (CSP) industry continues to show signs of disruption and transformation. Many CSPs are abandoning the closed, proprietary infrastructures of the past for more agile and open ones in order to offer services more quickly and support tech-savvy customers with a host of new and evolving expectations. These CSPs are making plans for 5G, continuing deployment of network functions virtualization (NFV) and software-defined networking (SDN), and are moving forward with new services to use edge computing.

Join Us: The Path to High Performance NFV Deployments

Deploying network functions virtualization (NFV) offers a host of benefits for telecommunication service providers, such as lowering costs, increasing flexibility, and speeding time-to market. And some of the largest service providers in the world are already reaping those benefits, by transforming from big-iron networks to cloud-based, software centric virtualized networks. Join us for a webinar on Tuesday, December 12 at 11 a.m. ET to get your business on the path to NFV.

Watch This: Sprint, Red Hat talk OpenStack success for telcos

OpenStack has become a popular platform for telecommunications providers as they implement network functions virtualization (NFV), software-defined networking (SDN) and cloud. Remember that survey last year, in which 86 percent of global telcos consider OpenStack essential or important to their success? Sprint has made the move to OpenStack; in fact, the telco is using it as the foundation for NFV across its data centers to better support network demand, improve network throughput and set the stage for advanced network functions. At this week’s Openstack Summit in Sydney, Sprint took the stage with Red Hat to talk about its use of OpenStack for NFV.

Red Hat telco goes big down under at OpenStack Summit Sydney.

OpenStack Summit in Sydney is a month away and Red Hat’s telco team is gearing up for a big presence this year. Red Hat is participating in 10 telco-specific presentations at the summit, on topics ranging from distributed monitoring and analysis, to SD-WAN architecture for OpenStack, to ETSI spec requirements. And of course, we’ll have a variety of sessions on NFV topics. There’s even a user implementation session to share best practices and lessons learned from a real-world OpenStack implementation at a large telco.

We hope to see you in Australia next month, Nov. 6-8, at the Sydney International Convention Centre. Join thousands of people from more than 60 countries, all there to talk about the mix of open technologies and architecting and operating of OpenStack clouds. We’ll be sharing more in coming weeks, but in the meantime visit the OpenStack Summit event site for registration details and a preview of the summit agenda.

Using Ansible to modernize telcos’ infrastructure through automation.

As telecommunications companies continue to modernize their networks and IT systems, they have to navigate the challenges that come with legacy systems, including legacy virtualized network functions (VNFs) that rely on local filesystem storage, single server implementations on which all the services run, and manually-intensive installations and upgrades. What telcos need are tools like Ansible, a general-purpose, open-source automation engine that automates software provisioning, configuration management, and application deployment.
