Is your communications business ready for containers? With their efficiency, agility and automation capabilities, today’s Linux containers are ideal for mobile implementations. Martyn Warwick, with TelecomTV, interviewed Red Hat’s Lars Herrmann, general manager of our integrated solutions business unit, at the 2017 Mobile World Congress about the topic of containers and how to ensure a successful implementation.
The popularity of containers in enabling a mobile first business model has grown exponentially in the past few years. According to Lars, containers have gone from “nobody knows anything about it” to “everybody’s doing it” within a couple of years. “I’ve been doing infrastructure technologies and open source for 20 years and I’ve never seen anything like that,” he adds.
But even with their popularity, container implementation needs to be thoughtful and planned as an operational-level change. In the interview, Lars provides an overview of the container concept and technology, how containers benefit telecommunications companies, impact on the network, and deployment challenges and solutions. Lars also shares a list of three tips for success with containers.
