A few weeks ago, we made several announcements in support of our open hybrid cloud vision. We unveiled the Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform and Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure, shared significant ecosystem momentum for Red Hat OpenStack, introduced the Red Hat OpenStack Cloud Infrastructure Partner Network and Red Hat Certified Solution Marketplace. Both of those new offerings have been met with significant industry, partner, and customer enthusiasm.

Today, we're happy to share that Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform and Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure are generally available, offering customers a clear path to the open hybrid cloud. Both of these new offerings are built on a foundation of Red Hat’s enterprise-class open source solutions and leverage Red Hat’s world-class support offerings. We are also announcing list pricing for Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform and Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure, and packaging changes in our Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization offering. Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.2 was also announced in June, and is also generally available today.

As part of the June announcements, we announced that certification for Red Hat’s OpenStack Compute (Nova) was immediately available. Today, we are also pleased to announce that certification for Red Hat’s OpenStack Networking (formerly known as Quantum) and Block Storage (Cinder) are also available. Red Hat certification ensures that partner solutions have been tested and certified against, and integrate well with, Red Hat’s OpenStack infrastructure solutions – comprised of Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform and Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure –to provide consistent supportability and compatibility. As of today, 592 compute nodes have achieved certification for Red Hat’s OpenStack Compute (Nova) and are listed in the Red Hat Certified Solution Marketplace as certified and supported by the corresponding partners for OpenStack environments.

In case you missed the announcements on Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform and Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure, here's a short recap of what we announced, along with pricing and packaging information for today’s general availability:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform
A single product offering combining the Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server and Red Hat’s OpenStack distribution, Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform is designed to meet the needs of advanced cloud users. Organizations can test and certify each OpenStack release running on the platform for software compatibility, lifecycle stability, and security, while the Red Hat Enterprise Linux server provides a secure and certified foundation for running these workloads.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform is available beginning today for customers looking to build custom OpenStack cloud solutions on an enterprise hardened OpenStack Grizzly release integrated with and optimized for Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform is optimized for deployment as an OpenStack Compute (Nova) node along with a subscription for unlimited Red Hat Enterprise Linux. A second offering, Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform for Controller Nodes, is optimized for other OpenStack server roles that do not require virtual guests. Support is available at either the Standard (business hours) or Premium (24x7) levels.

List pricing for US (in USD$) for an annual subscription follows:

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform Premium: $4,499/socket-pair/year
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform Standard: $3,449/socket-pair/year
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform for Controller Nodes Premium: $2,799/socket-pair/year
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform for Controller Nodes Standard: $2,149/socket-pair/year

Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure
Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure is a single subscription of three component technologies, including Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, Red Hat CloudForms, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform. Organizations transitioning to a cloud-enabled architecture or beginning to build and manage a private cloud Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) will benefit from the monitoring and orchestration provided by Red Hat CloudForms and the scalable, public cloud architecture of OpenStack.

Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure is available beginning today as a single subscription that allows the customer to deploy either Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization managed by Red Hat CloudForms OR Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform on physical servers, with and without unlimited Red Hat Enterprise Linux guests, at either Standard (business hours) or Premium (24x7) support levels.

Customers deploying Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization plus Red Hat CloudForms today will enjoy a significant cost savings compared to purchasing separately, while getting ready for a future OpenStack deployment.

List pricing for US (in USD$) follows:

  • Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure Premium: $5,999/socket-pair/year
  • Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure Standard: $4,599/socket-pair/year
  • Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure (w/o guests) Premium: $3,599/socket-pair/year
  • Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure (w/o guests) Standard: $2,799/socket-pair/year

Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.2
Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization 3.2 operates as an essential component of Red Hat Cloud Infrastructure as it provides traditional, open virtualization as a complement to cloud-enabled infrastructure provided by Red Hat OpenStack. New third-party plug-ins enable industry leaders including NetApp, Symantec, and HP to integrate their solutions directly into Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, and vendors may select their own plug-in framework for added functionality.

Beginning today, Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization will be sold on a per-socket-pair basis, and will include the full capabilities of our desktop virtualization product. Effectively, the pricing remains the same as the per-socket pricing of our previous Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization for Servers offering, while adding the features and functionality of the Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization for Desktops offering.

The new subscription, called simply Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, offers the combined server and desktop virtualization features in a single offering. Guest operating systems still need to be purchased separately.

Renewing customers will renew on the new subscription model.

List pricing for US (in USD$) follows:

  • Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Premium: $1,498/socket-pair/year
  • Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Standard: $998/socket-pair/year
