Over the past three years, we’ve worked hard to help make containers and Kubernetes an enterprise-ready technology, one that’s not only flexible and scalable to support the growth of cloud-native workloads, but also stable enough for the demanding needs of modern enterprises. Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform is designed to be our answer to these IT needs, built on the backbone of the world’s leading enterprise Linux platform and providing the scale and additional components that Kubernetes needs to fuel enterprise digital transformation.

Today, we believe that our efforts have been recognized with Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform being named among vendors that “lead the pack” in The Forrester New Wave(™): Enterprise Container Platform Software Suites, Q4 2018 report. The report is “Forrester’s evaluation of the emerging market for enterprise container platform (ECP) software suites” and it scored Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform and other software offerings against 10 criteria, including:

  • Runtime and orchestration

  • Image management

  • User experience

  • Vision

  • And more

In seven out of the ten criteria, Forrester cited Red Hat as differentiated. In the remaining three categories, Red Hat was cited as on par. More specifically, Forrester states that:

  • [Red Hat] Leads the pack with excellent user experience and integration capabilities. OpenShift’s runtime, orchestration, and image management features are strong. It includes an intuitive operator experience and support for many Amazon Web Services microservice frameworks.

  • [Red Hat] Is popular with Red Hat customers who prefer strong ecosystem synergy. OpenShift is well-integrated with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Ansible, OpenStack, and JBoss middleware.

Additionally, Red Hat customers that Forrester surveyed call out “[Red Hat’s] ability to help them accelerate cloud-native application development and their pace of innovation…” With the recent launch of Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 3.11, we are continuing to advance the key areas of OpenShift that can help make it stand out in a crowded marketplace and we’re also seeking to address emerging customer needs, particularly around monitoring clusters and workloads.

This evaluation of the enterprise container platform market is the first of its kind from Forrester, making us thrilled with the recognition.

Congratulations to the OpenShift team for the recognition as a leader. To learn more about or get started with OpenShift, start here.
