In any industry, relying on paperwork can lead to data entry errors, slower work, and higher processing costs. In the healthcare industry, these challenges can affect the end customer experience.

This month we are highlighting a major health insurance provider with more than half a million customers that submit claims and receipts each year. The provider sought to eliminate these challenges for its internal operations teams and, as a result, improve the customer experience.

When its customers visited a healthcare professional, they had to pay out of pocket, then submit the receipts by mail for reimbursement. The insurance provider wanted to modernize the process to make it easier for customers. To achieve this goal by gaining the ability to accept, validate, and process electronic receipts, the provider needed to upgrade its business processes.

With help from Red Hat Consulting, the insurance provider deployed Red Hat Mobile Application Platform to automate its claims process and let customers easily submit receipts on mobile devices. The solution includes a user-facing application that lets customers enter information and submit receipt photographs. When the application processes the claims, reimbursement is then paid directly to users’ bank accounts.

In addition, the Red Hat solution provides security features such as user authentication and encryption that help protect customers’ private data.

This solution helped the customer to achieve automated, streamlined, and efficient data validation and claims processing, reducing errors and time to reimbursement. These improvements provided the flexibility to build and deploy new, innovative applications, such as the new mobile solution that lets customers submit receipts at any time, from any mobile device

The customer is now able to deliver new, modern features and improvements to clients, such as the ability to easily make submissions anytime, from anywhere, without manual, paper-based processes.
