When Aviva plc, a multinational insurance provider group, acquired Friends Provident International (FPI), it needed to replace FPI’s costly, proprietary imaging and bond management workflow system. With help from Red Hat® Consulting, Aviva Asia Pte. Ltd. created and launched a new application based on Red Hat JBoss® Middleware within a tight 6-month time frame, reducing costs and improving response times for end users.
After acquiring Friends Provident International (FPI), Aviva found that its imaging and bond management workflow system needed to be replaced. This system was based on proprietary software with costly and inflexible renewal and maintenance fees—and the licenses were just 6 months from expiration. “The system was coming into a renewal process and needed to be upgraded,” said Sam Simopoulos, regional CIO at Aviva Asia Pte. Ltd. “It didn’t meet the needs of the company.” Aviva decided to work quickly to replace the solution using innovative technologies to support faster time to market for new services.
Aviva Asia streamlines system migration, reduces costs with Red Hat
After evaluating several enterprise solutions, Aviva chose to migrate to a new imaging and workflow system based on Red Hat JBoss Middleware. To meet an aggressive project timeline—just 6 months from initiation to production—involving 4 vendors and system integrators, Aviva engaged Red Hat Consulting, which provided on-site guidance in several global locations. “Our relationship with Red Hat was exceptional,” said Sam. “They understood the pressure we were under and worked to our requirements to ensure that we were able to deliver on time.”
With its new, open source-based solution, Aviva has reduced vendor licensing fees and other related costs, allowing the company to flexibly adapt its IT environment to meet future needs. Also, by automating processes and integrating systems in multiple countries, Aviva is able to deliver new services to market faster. “With the new system, our response times are much faster,” said Joanna Leong, senior development manager at Aviva Asia Pte. Ltd. “We’ve had a lot of positive feedback from users.”
