As enterprises and businesses face new business challenges, many of which require scalable compute capacity, concepts previously found only in high performance computing (HPC) are gaining traction in mainstream business solutions. This is not dissimilar to how many technologies developed for F1 racing found their way into mainstream cars, or how military technologies, from cell phones to GPS, make their way into the consumer marketplace.

Red Hat's drive for standardization across datacenter tiers has put us at or near the center of many innovative initiatives, from system and memory interconnects to cloud HPC deployments. The operating system is playing an increasingly important role in many of these initiatives, as it provides a unified interface to the underlying hardware and interconnects and serves as a foundation for modular and standardized application stacks that take advantage of enhanced system capabilities.

OpenHPC

Today, we’re pleased to say that we are joining another initiative that seeks to bring standardization to an evolving space in the form of the OpenHPC Project. For years, the HPC community has had to navigate a sea of different tools and proprietary solutions. Red Hat believes that hand-building unique software stacks is no longer a viable option within HPC, and that an open and modular HPC stack can help lead to consistent and reproducible results across heterogeneous computing environments.

By joining the OpenHPC project, we are taking a step to standardize and simplify the use of various tools and libraries deployed in HPC environments and helping to drive forward the project’s mission to provide an integrated collection of HPC-centric components to the ecosystem. Red Hat will seek to enable OpenHPC solutions based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux and its associated toolchains. Having gcc+ compilers and libraries compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux available via OpenHPC can enable long term compatibility, stability and usability of solutions developed by the ecosystem.

Red Hat Developer Toolset 6

Access to the latest development tools is key to successfully implementing HPC, but so is the stability of and support for these tools, especially in high-performance production environments. In support of this need for both more traditional and HPC developers, today marks the general availability of Red Hat Developer Toolset 6.

Red Hat Developer Toolset helps to streamline application development on Red Hat’s enterprise Linux platform by offering developers access to the latest, stable open source C and C++ compilers and complementary development and performance profiling tools. Accessible through the Red Hat Developer Program including the no-cost Red Hat Enterprise Linux Developer subscription, Red Hat Developer Toolset enables developers to compile applications once and deploy across multiple versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. It is available across multiple architectures with the following Red Hat Enterprise Linux subscriptions:

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux on x86 systems (Intel and AMD)

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux for Power

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux for z Systems

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server for ARM Developer Preview

Red Hat at Supercomputing 2016

If you have any questions about these or any other Red Hat products and technologies, like OpenStack, Storage and management, you can find us at Supercomputing 2016 show in booth #631 In Salt Lake City, Utah from Nov. 14-17.

Red Hat has been a member of the HPC ecosystem for many years and values collaboration. We have built mini-theater in our booth to showcase many joint solutions with our hardware and software partners from HPC ecosystem.
