Red Hat Announces Honorable Mentions for Latin America in the 2023 Red Hat Innovation Awards

Red Hat awarded five LATAM customers with honorable mentions to acknowledge their innovation achievements and cultural transformation

RALEIGH, N.C. -

Red Hat, Inc., the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today recognized five Latin American customers with honorable mentions in the 2023 Red Hat Innovation Awards. The Red Hat Innovation Awards highlight the achievements of Red Hat customers that demonstrate creative thinking, problem solving, and the innovative use of Red Hat solutions. This ranges from innovative thinking to solve a business challenge to the impact on organizational culture and transformation processes.

This year, the companies that receive this distinction for creating best practices within their industries are: Banorte (Mexico), Banco Itaú (Colombia), PRODERJ (Brazil), Telefónica Brazil / Vivo y Telefónica Argentina (Argentina).

Banorte

Banorte's Infrastructure team was challenged by the increase in customer demand during the COVID-19 pandemic: first, to accelerate digital financial services to customers, and second, to maintain the operational levels of the existing channels of the bank. The Mexican financial entity implemented Red Hat Openshift through the bank’s Container Adoption Program and in its initial phase it achieved excellent results and generated a great positive impact on the bank's technical and commercial teams.

Aligned with its vision of "Being a great ally to grow strong with Mexico," Banorte used Red Hat OpenShift to achieve greater scalability while introducing methodologies to keep up with the implementation of new paradigms, both in infrastructure and in development of applications focused on container technology.

Banco Itaú

Banco Itaú, the sixth largest bank in Colombia, faced the need to support new challenges related to digital banking. Using Red Hat OpenShift Service on AWS,Banco Itaú was able to transform its organizational culture and eliminate the lock-in of proprietary technologies.

Red Hat's technology was selected based on the company's open practices and leadership in hybrid cloud. The project had a direct impact on the business, leading to a reduction in the bank’s annual operating budget, as well as reducing platform provisioning time and eliminating up to 50% of operations management tasks.

PRODERJ

PRODERJ is the body of the Central Administration of Information Technologies and Guidance (TIC) that determines the role of the administration of public policies of the State. Using Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, PRODERJ was able to centralize information from all the agencies of the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil into a single portal.

As a result, citizens now have the ability to access more than 2,300 administrative services from the State of Rio de Janeiro in one place, enhancing their ability to perform important tasks like renewing a driver's license, obtaining a new document, paying taxes, or scheduling public school enrollment, among many other activities.

Telefónica Brasil

Telefónica Brazil S.A. is a telecommunications company that offers fixed and mobile voice, fixed and mobile broadband, ultra-broadband, data and digital services, as well as subscription TV and IT services throughout the Brazilian territory.

As a result of its strategy to expand its online services and transform its business to adapt to the evolving digital landscape, Telefónica | Vivo needed an operations center focused on the quality of services and a set of tools and functionalities that support its activities. The company worked with Red Hat to implement a data lake (redeployment/logical structuring of servers, installation and structuring of Red Hat OpenShift, up to data ingestion and modeling for specific SQM use cases) and a Management Service Quality (SQM) component of the final solution of the Service Operations Center (SOC).

Telefónica Argentina

Telefónica Argentina, the main telecommunications operator responsible for almost a third of the market in Argentina, set up a private cloud using Red Hat OpenShift in conjunction with its own infrastructure. With this, the company was able to implement a DevOps and GitOps model to bring greater agility not only in the design of value solutions but also in the production deployment of those solutions, incrementally and continuously from a local environment. The "TCLOUD" project was part of Telefónica's efforts to transform its operation and lead it towards a DevSecOps model.
