We are proud to share our support for Django Girls’ free programming workshop for women, being held just ahead of PyCon Israel 2017 in Ra'anana, Israel.
Django Girls was established three years ago and has already held more than 400 events in 75 countries around the world, attended by more than 9,000 women. A non-profit organization and community, Django Girls aims to inspire women to fall in love with programming and create amazing first experiences with technology. It does this by helping to organize free, one-day programming workshops for women, providing tools, resources including open sourced online tutorials, and support.
The first Django Girls event in Israel was held in 2016 in Tel Aviv. On 11th June, Django Girls will hold its second event, sponsored by Red Hat and hosted at the Red Hat offices in Ra’anana. Held in conjunction with PyCon Israel 2017, applications for the workshop are open until 28th May at https://djangogirls.org/raanana/.
The philosophy of Django Girls events is that everyone can take part and every attendee's experience matters. With the aim of welcoming all, the workshop does not require any background in programming and the tutorials are designed to be easily accessible. Each small group of up to three girls is supported by a mentor. Red Hat will be providing several mentors from our engineering teams to work closely with participants at the Ra’anana event.
Red Hat is passionate about participation, and diversity and inclusion are among our key values. We are delighted to collaborate with Django Girls to help open up new opportunities for women, build and expand communities, and boost diversity in the programming world.
