Perses multicluster dashboards and custom columns: See your fleet your way 

Platform operators need real flexibility, not rigid views that force constant context switching. In Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management 2.17, customizable user dashboards, powered by the open source Red Hat build of Perses, are now generally available.

  • Console users now have the flexibility they need to drill down into metrics and select their specific charts of choice.
  • You can view hub and managed cluster metrics directly inside the central console to quickly understand overall fleet health.
  • You can now customize the columns for your cluster lists, application lists, and search results. This allows you to add custom labels like Line of Business (LOB) or Deployment Environment so you can find pertinent information immediately instead of needing to filter through noise.

 

 

Take the guesswork out of application deployment with an enhanced placement UI

Deploying applications across hundreds of environments shouldn't feel like a shot in the dark. The updated Placement resource user interface reduces the cognitive load for new users while giving advanced configuration power to SREs.

  • We built an embedded, guided wizard into your ApplicationSet and Policy creation workflows so you can build targeting rules visually without manual YAML editing as shown in figures 1 and 2.
  • Advanced users get a dedicated, centralized list view under the Clusters grouping to quickly search, view, and debug all existing placements independently.
  • The interface now includes a real-time visualization simulator that instantly displays Clusters Selected or Clusters Not Selected before you save, giving you absolute assurance that your workloads will land exactly where they belong.

GitOps that resists network drops: Next-generation pull model

Traditional multicluster GitOps setups hit a wall when scaling to hundreds of edge locations over restricted or unreliable networks. The new Argo CD Agent integration, now in Technology Preview, flips the script.

Your central control plane no longer needs to reach out to remote sites. Instead, lightweight components use a secure pull model to reach back to the hub cluster. The distributed architecture provides incredible network resilience, allowing agents to work offline and automatically sync status updates when connectivity is restored. This is a great fit for secure, air-gapped environments, factory floors, and remote edge computing sites, because the central control plane never needs direct inbound access to individual cluster internals.

Fine-grained security for virtual machines: Virt RBAC

Bringing containerized and virtualized workloads into a single management environment shouldn't mean sacrificing fine-grained access control. Version 2.17 improves role-based access control (RBAC) for Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization.

Administrators can build highly specific custom ClusterRoles. For instance, they could allow a user to start a virtual machine without granting permission to stop, delete, or migrate it. These roles can be automatically pushed to specific managed clusters via Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management policies and mapped directly to your targeted user groups using MulticlusterRoleAssignments.
