We are pleased to share that Red Hat has been positioned in the Visionary quadrant of the Gartner, Inc., “Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Application Platform-as-a-Service, Worldwide” for our OpenShift Online public Platform-as-a-Service offering. OpenShift Online, launched in June 2013, is part of our PaaS suite of offerings, including OpenShift Enterprise for private, on-premise PaaS deployments and an open source community offering, OpenShift Origin.
Red Hat was evaluated against 16 other public PaaS vendors. OpenShift allows transferable code base between on-premise and public offerings allowing better flexibility of choice for developers. Its polyglot structure also enables the OpenShift cartridge model to support any middleware environment, incorporating with JBoss software stacks already used by many enterprise developers and supporting DevOps capabilities including continuous delivery and autoscaling. The third generation OpenShift platform brings active contribution from the OpenShift community, providing orchestration support through the Google-initiated Kubernetes project andallowing developers detailed control of autoscaling and automation.
“We believe our placement on the aPaaS Magic Quadrant reaffirms the strides OpenShift Online has made since its general availability in June 2013. Its robust platform and interoperability with popular middleware development frameworks has enabled more than 2.25 million applications to be created for a variety of business and developer needs,” said Ashesh Badani, vice president and general manager, OpenShift, Red Hat. “As we continue to expand OpenShift Online availability to more regions around the globe, more customers seeking to begin their public PaaS implementation can take advantage of the robust benefits and security of a multi-tenant PaaS built on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.”
In addition to growth in its user base, the OpenShift platform has experienced customer uptake as well, recently announcing that Swiss online retailer LeShop.ch has selected OpenShift Enterprise to deploy and manage its newest application for developing, running and operating its online supermarket. OpenShift was also recently named one of InfoWorld’s 2015 “Technology of the Year” award winners, selected by IDG’s InfoWorld Test Center editors and reviewers as of one the most innovative products in the IT landscape.
