Red Hat continues to demonstrate its leadership in fulfilling enterprise application needs in the era of open hybrid clouds with the latest release of its application platform technology. Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application (EAP) 6.1, available today, features enhancements based on feedback from customers and cloud providers, and brings significant enhancements to help customers leverage cloud computing: manageability, security, performance, and scalability.
With the introduction of JBoss EAP 6, cloud enablement has been a dominant theme for Red Hat's flagship middleware offering. Since then, we’ve continued to advance cloud capabilities in the platform's deployment models, application management, and developer impact. Here is a summary of these elements and ways in which the vision continues to grow with JBoss EAP 6.1:
- Ease into the Cloud: JBoss EAP 6 was architected and designed with the goal of allowing it to be used on premises, in public clouds, or in private clouds, and Red Hat’s subscription model enables customers to get one offering from Red Hat and then determine the best way to deploy it over time. We’ve seen that different organizations have different demands of the cloud, and there may not be a single approach in every enterprise. This is what’s behind the concept of open hybrid clouds, and is the reason why we designed JBoss EAP 6 to work in these scenarios. Building on this foundation for JBoss EAP 6.1, we incorporated a number of requests from organizations deploying the platform in different cloud scenarios, such as better support for distributed management and in-memory message replication.
- Operational Excellence: With JBoss EAP 6, we added features to both the core and managed offerings to simplify management of applications through their entire life cycle. Manageability is the price of entry to being a cloud-ready application platform; however, the scope of manageability is much broader than cloud, extending to all deployment patterns. This effort continues into the 6.1 stream with a number of enhancements and new features being delivered, including the ability to override deployment descriptors upon deployment and an expansion of the configuration attributes that can be supplied by system properties.
- JBoss Way: Optimizing developer productivity has been a longstanding priority for Red Hat and will continue as such into the future. We reinforced our commitment to this approach by providing support for the latest Java EE 6 standards in JBoss EAP 6, as well as strengthening the technology’s tooling and testing capabilities.
The JBoss Way initiative was launched as a development approach that provides a more productive and simple way to create modern applications. It includes frameworks, tools and architectural designs, and over the past year we’ve added new resources to it, including articles, videos, demos and an updated version of our quickstarts—all of which are geared toward easing the process of developing with Red Hat JBoss Middleware products. In 6.1 we've added nine additional quickstarts to get developers moving quickly with new technologies.
Customers looking to build applications for the open hybrid cloud should consider JBoss EAP, and many already have as we continue to integrate the technology with other Red Hat products like OpenShift and CloudForms. Red Hat JBoss Middleware provides an application platform that offers the reliability, manageability, performance and scalability that enterprises have come to expect, regardless of which cloud deployment pattern a customer chooses.
