Aiming for uptime: Helvetia bumps up uptime with OpenShift
Swiss insurance company Helvetia faced availability and performance challenges while running its customer-facing applications on legacy, on-premise hardware. To gain the agility needed to stay competitive, the company expanded its Red Hat application environment to a new public cloud solution based on Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform running on Amazon Web Services (AWS). With this new environment, Helvetia reports more than 99.9% uptime for its services, reduced time to market from months to weeks, and built a path to reduce costs.
The company had used Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (EAP) to build Java applications running on-premise on its servers but needed to enhance its development capabilities to stay competitive in the increasingly crowded insurance market.
Helvetia sought to build an automated, cloud-first IT environment with greater responsiveness. The company chose Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, running in the public cloud on Amazon Web Services (AWS) as the foundation of this environment, along with Red Hat AMQ, Red Hat Satellite, and Red Hat Ansible Automation, with help from Red Hat Consulting. Replacing legacy automation with Ansible Automation
Siemens is a global technology company that focuses on electrification—from power generation, transmission, and distribution to smart grid solutions and the efficient application of electrical energy—as well as medical imaging and laboratory diagnostics. One of the important tools that Siemens uses is public key infrastructures (PKIs), a collection of processes and policies for creating, using, managing, and storing digital certificates and other secure communications components.
PKI technology is used by Siemens' 372,000 employees, as well as about 100,000 users from the company’s business partners, to protect access to sensitive information. Siemens uses PKI to encrypt everything from email to Internet of Things (IoT) communications.
The company now maintains two PKI environments for these different use cases. Additionally, communication between a greater variety of service teams is increasing. These changes have created additional complexity, particularly for configuration, increasing workloads for Siemens’ PKI team.
To support this growth in PKI use Siemens sought a more robust automation solution that would help its teams accommodate demand while reducing configuration complexity. Siemens chose to replace its legacy automation solution for its PKI environment with Red Hat Ansible Automation.
