OpenShift by Red Hat is attracting interest from developers and enterprises around the world. We’re seeing great traction for OpenShift Enterprise since our launch in November and are excited to already be able to offer updates to this platform with the 1.1 release today. Momentum also continues to pick up for the portfolio with recognition by The Cloud Awards as the top Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) platform. We believe the open, flexible and easy-to-use platform we’ve built with OpenShift gives developers a top-notch experience and are excited that the industry is recognizing its capabilities.
OpenShift Enterprise is an enterprise-ready PaaS product from Red Hat that is designed to be installed on-premise within customer datacenters or private, public or hybrid clouds. The product enables customers to streamline and standardize developer workflows, facilitating increased IT service delivery velocity that can better support business demands. OpenShift Enterprise is built on a trusted stack of open source-based Red Hat technologies, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, JBoss Enterprise Application Platform and OpenShift Origin.
Today, OpenShift Enterprise 1.1 is available, providing a number of enhancements and updates. OpenShift Enterprise 1.1 features a fully supported developer console that enables application deployment via a web browser, in addition to OpenShift Enterprise’s rich CLI and Eclipse IDE interfaces. Red Hat also announces the availability of a newly published reference architecture, Deploying and Managing a Private PaaS with OpenShift Enterprise that details how to deploy a distributed OpenShift Enterprise environment and how to use that to build and deploy applications. OpenShift Enterprise 1.1 is available to subscribing customers in North America, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe today.
The OpenShift portfolio was also recently named a winner in the “Best Platform-as-a-Service” category of The Cloud Awards 2013 program, beating out five competing platforms. The Cloud Awards program accepts entries from organizations of any size – from enterprises to start-ups – in the U.S. and internationally, with an aim to celebrate excellence in the field of cloud computing. Nearly 200 organizations entered the 2013 awards program, with entries coming from across the globe and including Europe, the U.S. and the Middle East. After being named a finalist on the shortlist, The Cloud Awards selected Red Hat, with its OpenShift portfolio, as the winner in its “Best Platform-as-a-Service” category.
Larry Johnson, The Cloud Awards organizer, said:
“Compiling the shortlist was difficult, but trying to pick individual winners in any category was almost impossible. We are extremely pleased to endorse Red Hat as a cloud services provider which solves real-world problems for its clients, knocking down the barriers inherent in older business models and showing them to be outmoded – truly leveraging cloud technologies to be the best of the best.”
