Context

For OpenStack, 2014 was a year of consolidation. So says Neil Levine, Red Hat director of product management for Ceph. As companies rose up to create solutions for OpenStack, and their solutions saw heavy adoption at enterprises worldwide, larger players – like, say, Red Hat – acquired them to enhance and expand their portfolio of offerings.

A prediction

Now that things have calmed down a bit, 2015 should prove to be a year of great conflict around OpenStack. Because it is no longer simple enough to fly a shingle promoting to the world that, yes, you can help them with their little OpenStack challenge. No, now that clear leaders have emerged – such as, ahem, Red Hat – it is important to answer the question, “Why me.” Because this is the question customers and partners will ask. Why is your particular OpenStack solution worthy of investment?

What’s coming in 2015 for Red Hat and Ceph?

The Ceph team at Red Hat has made good use of Red Hat’s well-known quality assurance capabilities to provide customers who deploy OpenStack and Ceph with an enterprise grade experience.

Red Hat plans to expand the range of workloads that are handled with Ceph, with an emphasis on more performance-centric workloads – databases (MariaDB, MySQL, and MongoDB) in particular.
