Telcos around the world are investing in virtual networking to digitally transform legacy infrastructure and gain efficiencies, deliver new services, meet evolving customer demands, and outperform the competition. Telecom Italia is no different. And at Red Hat Summit, May 8 -10 in San Francisco, the Italian telecommunications company will share its network functions virtualization (NFV) story.
Telecom Italia serves customers in Italy and Brazil, operating more than a hundred million mobile and fixed lines in the two countries. The carrier has been investing in network infrastructure upgrades to expand and modernize its offerings.
Digital transformation is a challenging endeavor, especially in the complex and legacy-rich infrastructure environments that most carriers have. Migration decisions should be based on business requirements, available resources and pragmatic timelines.
This year at Red Hat Summit, Telecom Italia will share the story of its NFV environment based on Red Hat OpenStack Platform on Wednesday, May 9, 11:45 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., in Moscone West Room 2002. Ivano Guardini, NFV Manager at Telecom Italia, will take the stage with Fabrizio Pezzella, Red Hat solution architect and Matteo Bernacchi, Red Hat architect, to present “Production-ready NFV at Telecom Italia.”
Telecom Italia is the first large telco in Italy to deploy Red Hat’s NFV solution into production. It chose to deploy an NFV solution for its datacenter and put critical VNFs—such as virtualized IP multimedia subsystem (vIMS) and Virtual Evolved Packet Core (vEPC)—into production for its core business services. vIMS solutions typically enable increased efficiency, flexibility, and reliability when introducing new services, and vEPC can enable service providers to scale more cost-effectively.
In this session, learn how Telecom Italia worked with Red Hat Consulting, Ericsson which provided the VNF technologies, and Accenture which served as system integrator. The result is a production-ready NFV environment that is completely automated and supports complex features like Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK).
Don’t miss “Production-ready NFV at Telecom Italia,” at Red Hat Summit. We’ll see you there.
