2017 Red Hat Innovation Awards categories

Enterprise transformation

Transformation requires speed, agility, and the ability to scale. Your organization has made big strides by moving away from proprietary infrastructure and restrictive vendors, and by migrating to secure, modern, open source, and standardized solutions. You can participate in the digital economy without starting from scratch because you’ve embraced new digital trends and bridged legacy systems with modern applications and cloud services. Your business model reflects your modern IT processes through an open and transparent culture. You’ve aligned development and operations for seamless and continuous innovation. Show us your path, so that others may follow.

This award is presented to the nominee that shows the most outstanding transition from legacy IT to becoming a self-service leader and business partner in the digital world.

Suggested technology (but not limited to):

DevOps implementation

DevOps is an approach to culture, automation, and platform design that makes businesses more responsive. Whether you’re just getting started or you’ve already embraced this agile mode of IT, you’re modernizing your classic infrastructure and increasing the speed and flexibility with which new features and services are delivered. Your developers work closely with the rest of IT to speed software builds, tests, and releases—all without sacrificing reliability and security. Tell us how your IT organization is on a path to adapting your culture and processes to deliver apps, features, and innovation faster throughout your entire IT environment.

This award is presented to the nominee that best implements the complete DevOps strategy of culture, automation, and platform changes needed to meet the new demands of their customers.

Suggested technology (but not limited to):

Cloud infrastructure

With an open hybrid cloud infrastructure, your IT organization is better serving your business by delivering more agile and flexible solutions. At the same time, you’re protecting business assets and preparing for the future by securing your infrastructure and cloud development. You’ve closed the gap between the needs of your business and the expectations of what IT can deliver. Developers and technologists work together to create tools for building and managing public and private clouds. This is now part of your daily routine. And you have the results to prove its value. Tell us how your organization is collaborating to build the kind of cloud that your business needs to thrive.

This award is presented to the nominee that most successfully illustrates a collaborative public, private, or open hybrid cloud deployment.

Suggested technology (but not limited to):

Application optimization

Increasingly complicated applications—and demands for faster development—are putting even more pressure on infrastructure, IT teams, and processes. But you’ve reduced friction between development and operations, simplified application deployment, and accelerated delivery cycles. You’re now using containers, freeing yourself from maintaining old, physical environments. You’re able to manage and secure your IT consistently across multiple environments—physical, virtual, and both private and public cloud environments. All of this allows you to deliver value to the line of business and your customers faster. Share your journey of building a modern container infrastructure.

This award is presented to the organization that employs agile methodologies and most successfully illustrates superior overall performance in creating, maintaining, and deploying successful business applications.

Suggested technology (but not limited to):

The open source way

Open source is more than a development model. It designates a broad set of values, like open exchange, collaborative participation, rapid prototyping, transparency, meritocracy, and community development. This is what we call the open source way. You’re using open source projects, products, or initiatives, and you’re creating a culture that supports collaboration. This gives your business the agility and flexibility needed to compete in today’s digital economy. You’re using open source projects as the basis of critical technology deployments and are using open source technologies to rapidly develop your cloud, big data, and DevOps initiatives.

This award is presented to an organization that is leading innovation by building an open source culture, contributing to community projects, and using open source technology to support a broad range of applications and business services.
