Virtualized RAN: 4G/5G strategies, opportunities, and pitfalls
Digital service providers offer perspective in global survey
How far down the path toward virtualized radio access networks (vRANs) are digital service providers? What drives and inhibits them? What vRAN architectural choices are they making? To answer these questions, Heavy Reading conducted a global survey at the end of 2019 of 81 service providers.
This paper explores responses from the service providers on a number of topics, including:
- Penetration of vRAN solutions.
- Perceived benefits of vRAN.
- Barriers to deployment of vRAN solutions.
- Plans for implementation.
The results show strong agreement that the transition to 5G is a transition to containers and cloud-native network applications, vRAN in particular. Download the paper to learn more.
