Developing an application locally with your environment-specific libraries, dependencies, and files can be challenging. You may have to rewrite and fix breaks.

Application containers can help accelerate application delivery, making your app work across environments, pass quality assurance, and deploy more successfully. You can work with Linux® containers on Red Hat® Enterprise Linux 8 systems using command-line tools such as podman, buildah, skopeo, and runc.

In this presentation, you will find out about the challenges in developing an application locally with your environment specific libraries, dependencies, and files. You will see how you can make your app work across environments, pass quality assurance, and get your app deployed without massive headaches, rewriting, and break-fixing using containers.

We will also discuss how to work with Linux containers on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 systems using command-line tools such as podman, buildah, skopeo and runc. In addition to these tools, Red Hat provides base images to act as the foundation for your own images. Some of these base images target use cases ranging from business applications (such as Node.js, PHP, Java, and Python) to infrastructure (such as logging, data collection, and authentication).        

Deploying the application to production will bring challenges of performance, scale, high availability, security, and day 2 operations. In the presentation, you will also see how Amazon Red Hat OpenShift® can address these challenges and the various options available to deploy Red Hat OpenShift on AWS public cloud.
