A Red Hat Certified Specialist in Application Server Management has demonstrated the skills and knowledge needed to use JBoss Operations Network to monitor and manage application systems running on Red Hat® JBoss® Enterprise Application Platform and Red Hat Enterprise Linux®. The Red Hat Certified Specialist in Application Server Management exam was a performance-based exam.

The audience for this exam is experienced system administrators who use JBoss Operations Network to manage and monitor application systems.

Prerequisites for this exam

There are no prerequisite for this exam, but Red Hat recommends that you have good, hands-on experience with JBoss Operations Network and consider taking the JB234 course as well.

To become a Red Hat Certificate of Expertise in Application Server Management, you should be able to perform the following tasks:

While the focus of this exam is the use of JBoss Operations Network, candidates should be aware that it is conducted on Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Therefore, some familiarity with Linux environments is advisable.

As with all Red Hat performance-based exams, configurations must persist after reboot without intervention.

Red Hat encourages all Red Hat Certified Specialist in Application Server Management candidates to consider taking the Systems Management with Red Hat JBoss Operations Network (JB234) course.

While attending Red Hat Training classes can be an important part of your preparation to take this exam, attending class does not guarantee success on the exam. Previous experience, practice, and native aptitude are also important determinants of success.

Many books and other resources on system administration for Red Hat's products are available. Red Hat does not endorse any as preparation guides for any exams. Nevertheless, candidates may find additional reading deepens understanding and can prove helpful.

Exam format

This exam is a performance-based evaluation of JBoss Operations Network skills and knowledge. Candidates perform a number of tasks focused on using JBoss Operations Network to manage application servers and are evaluated on whether they have met specific objective criteria. Performance-based testing means that candidates must perform tasks similar to what they perform on the job.

This exam consists of 1 section lasting 3 hours.

Scores and reporting

Official scores for exams come exclusively from Red Hat Certification Central. Red Hat does not authorize examiners or training partners to report results to candidates directly. Scores on the exam are usually reported within 3 U.S. business days.

Exam results are reported as section scores. Red Hat does not report performance on individual items, nor will it provide additional information upon request.
