American Product Distributors, Inc. (APD), a provider of custom procurement solutions to large organizations, needed to update its proprietary e-commerce platform to give customers an easier, more cost-effective shopping experience when purchasing office supplies. With help from Red Hat, APD built a platform with innovative features like comparison shopping and purchasing control—all in 1 application. Now APD's customers can make smarter purchases and save money.
APD builds procurement solution like no other
With Red Hat's help, APD built a new e-commerce platform that lowers purchasing costs for customers by using big data to ensure buyers get the right product at the right price.
Companies across America use APD's procurement solution to buy office supplies, tools, and industrial products. These companies need the greatest value at the lowest price. To help its customers reduce costs and make informed buying choices, APD needed to update its proprietary e-commerce platform and create a new, open source environment that gives customers an easy, Amazon.com-like online shopping experience.

Red Hat helped APD build a new e-commerce platform, which integrates with an Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) solution from Amazon Web Services (AWS), a Red Hat Certified Cloud Provider. The solution delivers innovative features like comparison shopping, customized reporting, management control, and purchasing control—all in 1 application. APD's customers use the system to buy the best products at the best price and also to set up retail e-catalogs to sell their own products. “With the new system, we have product comparison features,” said Cy Kennedy, president of APD. “Customers can look at items … side by side … just like they might do when they go to the store.”
Using APD's new platform, companies can now reduce costs by easily finding products that offer the best value. And because APD's customers can use the new solution to sell their own products, they can also boost their bottom line. “Our goal was to create an innovative model that couldn’t be easily replicated in the marketplace, and the Red Hat solution met that challenge,” said Kennedy.
