CargoSmart Limited provides global shipment management software solutions that help shipping companies and cargo terminals increase delivery reliability, reduce transportation costs, and streamline operations. The company wanted to create a software-defined datacenter to achieve greater scale and efficiency. It used Red Hat® solutions to meet customer and market demands faster and to create self-service capabilities for new and existing customers.
CargoSmart modernizes its software-defined datacenter with Red Hat OpenStack Platform
Using Red Hat solutions, CargoSmart modernized its datacenter, improving efficiency and time to market and reducing platform setup and application deployment from days to minutes.
CargoSmart provides global shipment management software solutions—such as sailing schedules, monitoring, documentation, contract management, compliance, and benchmarking—to shipping companies and cargo terminals. However, increasingly complex transport networks require more precise alignment of customer bookings with vessel supply, as well as entry and exit times. “As transport networks become more complex, we need better visibility and management to ensure our services meet customer needs and deadlines,” said Eric Wong, assistant general manager at CargoSmart.
To ensure it can keep pace with transport network demand, CargoSmart initiated the Network Optimization Engine (NOE) project, a key part of its software-defined datacenter initiative. The NOE project maximizes booking revenue and operational efficiency while minimizing operating costs. To find and deploy the ideal technology for the NOE project, CargoSmart turned to Red Hat. CargoSmart expanded its use of Red Hat CloudForms, deployed Red Hat OpenStack® Platform, and worked with Red Hat Consulting to build new self-service capabilities.
With its new Red Hat environment, CargoSmart can meet customer and market demands faster. Its development time dropped from days to 27 minutes, and its provisioning time fell from 8 hours to 20 minutes. “Time to market is critical for our customer base,” said Eric. “We can now roll out solutions on proven technology, with enterprise support, allowing our customers to focus on their own solution development.” CargoSmart also unified IT management to establish a stable, efficient platform for big data analysis. The company also created a self-service provisioning and development environment to help customers efficiently acquire and deploy necessary resources.
