Targeting operational efficiency

In 2013 alone, SIA managed 2.7 billion card payments, 2.2 billion credit transfers and collections, and 28.6 billion trading and post-trading transactions. Together, these activities required the transmission of 293.3 terabytes of data across the network.

With so many transactions taking place on a 24x7 basis, operational efficiency is key to maintaining competitive advantage. That's why SIA chose technologies and services from Red Hat to optimize and support its high-demand environment.

Choosing open standards for sustained success

Like many organizations, SIA has grown to embrace open source technology in recent years. The company now runs Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Satellite on approximately 200 physical servers and 400 virtual servers. In 2013, SIA chose Red Hat Virtualization to assist in the migration from proprietary hardware to an Intel x86-based platform. The company has also implemented Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform for the development of key applications and services and is currently evaluating Red Hat CloudForms with the goal of creating an advanced cloud infrastructure.

SIA has reduced transaction processing time by up to 270%, increased the flexibility of its systems, and significantly simplified operations. All of these achievements have resulted in major cost reductions for the company while avoiding any possibility of vendor lock-in.

The adoption of this new virtual infrastructure has also strengthened SIA's competitiveness in the market, enabling the company to handle a large increase in the volume of transactions supported by its systems.
