Challenge

Digitally transform to strengthen competitive advantage

To stay competitive in a changing technological landscape, Orange Spain wanted to redefine what it means to be a telecommunications provider. To accomplish its goal, the company needed to adopt a DevOps culture and build a new software-defined platform. It launched a new cloud-native subsidiary, X by Orange, to provide digital services and solutions to improve productivity for business customers, specifically in the areas of collaboration, privacy and security, and cloud migration.

Solution

Build a cloud platform and adopt DevOps and automation

X by Orange worked with Red Hat Consulting to evolve its culture, processes, and technologies. The company selected Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, running on Amazon Web Services (AWS), to more quickly create and release new services using a provider-agnostic Kubernetes platform on top of multicloud infrastructure. “We chose Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform for the freedom it gives us on top of different public clouds, all rooted in Kubernetes-native [application programming interfaces] APIs and experience,” said Jose Maria San José Juarez, chief technical and information officer at X by Orange. The company also adopted a DevOps approach and automated processes to increase self-service, delivery speed, and reliability.

Business Outcome

Use an agile approach to quickly deliver innovative services to customers

X by Orange wanted to launch its new cloud platform quickly—and it did, using an agile approach. In less than 1 year, the company went from an idea to a business in production with 120 employees. Red Hat OpenShift’s API-driven architecture helps X by Orange work with a diverse partner ecosystem to offer a range of its own and third-party services without sacrificing platform stability or reliability. “We believe in the power of open source to accelerate innovation, and with Red Hat’s technology stack, we can better tap into the rapid development in upstream communities while depending on enterprise-grade stability, support, and enhanced security,” said San José.
