We are pleased to announce the availability of new Red Hat Storage Server 2.0 features and capabilities that bring enhanced virtual machine storage functionality for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, end-to-end encryption for data at rest and in motion, and enhanced security and data availability.

By converging compute, storage and virtualization resources, Red Hat Storage delivers the storage foundation to build open hybrid clouds. Open hybrid cloud environments allow enterprises to use standardized technology to unify public and private clouds, providing workload portability, avoiding vendor lock-in, and enabling new business capabilities.

Red Hat Storage is at the forefront of driving datacenter modernization with open software-defined storage that fundamentally changes the way enterprises store and manage the deluge of unstructured and semi-structured data. Red Hat Storage solutions break the traditional locked-in storage approach so enterprises can maximize operational efficiency, reduce costs, and protect data integrity across private, public, and hybrid clouds.

Many enterprises have established highly virtualized datacenters as the basis for open hybrid cloud infrastructures. The exponential growth of unstructured data coupled with the rate virtual environments must scale often results in the need for drastic increases in the server virtualization footprint and the consumption of storage capacity. This growing demand for storage causes IT organizations to grapple with optimizing compute and storage resources across physical, virtual and cloud environments.

Highlighted below is a subset of the new features in Red Hat Storage Servers 2.0.

Converged virtualization and storage

Enhanced VM image store now expands virtual machine storage for Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization solutions so enterprises do not have to depend on complex and expensive SAN infrastructures.

Enterprises can also leverage the same standard x86 systems they use for virtualization and computational tasks to implement Red Hat Storage scale-out storage solutions. The value of virtualized compute infrastructure now extends to the storage layer.

And, new simplified management capabilities are now available through centralized visibility and control of Red Hat Storage volumes and virtual infrastructures with the Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization manager console.

Robust Security with encryption

New features to encrypt Red Hat Storage volumes combined with existing capabilities to encrypt data accessed through Red Hat Storage’s rest-based object APIs now deliver end-to-end data encryption for data in motion and at rest.

High levels of data security and availability

New capabilities and enhancements give higher levels of data integrity through the configuration of server-side quorum for another safeguard preventing data loss and data corruption – even in the event of multiple server failures.
