We’re delighted to welcome Jae-Hyung Jin to Red Hat as a general manager for Korea. In the new role, he will be responsible for Red Hat’s business operations in Korea.
Prior to joining Red Hat, Jae-Hyung Jin served as head of the enterprise sales and marketing group as a vice president at Samsung Electronics. He has held several key leadership positions in the past at leading technology and trading companies, including Cisco Systems, LG Electronics and Daewoo International. Jae-Hyung brings in nearly 25 years of experience in various industries, including telecommunications, manufacturing, finance and public.
We caught up with Jae-Hyung to find out more about his interest in open source and Red Hat, as well as his thoughts on the current IT trends, and his insights about leadership and management.
Why did you choose to join Red Hat?
First of all, the innovative aspect of Red Hat as the leader of the cloud and open source areas, both of which receive strong attention in the IT market, has appealed greatly to me.
The market’s high interest in Red Hat, with consistently strong revenue growth based on the innovative business model of subscription, showing continuous development and technical leadership, has convinced me of the unlimited potential and direction of Red Hat. The cloud adoption activities in the Korean market has increased. At such a pivotal moment, I was confident that I could contribute much to Red Hat Korea’s growth through my 25 years of sales and business experience in various industries including telecommunications, manufacturing, finance and public as well as my experience in both global and domestic companies including Cisco Systems and Samsung Electronics.
What role do you think Red Hat and open source can play in the digital transformation of Korean companies?
Red Hat has supported the digital transformation of customers through various global success cases. This is exemplified by the result of over 90% of the Fortune Global 500 companies using Red Hat products and solutions.
In Korea as well, we have many successful cases of digital transformation in public, financial and telecommunication sectors, and we see many opportunities in the newly opened cloud market, including UNIX to Linux migration. This is because the interest in digital transformation to enable future business growth is high, even though the Korean companies are not rapidly adopting the cloud at the moment. Additionally, container platforms including microservice architecture and DevOps, have recently emerged as a major growth area in the tech sector and Red Hat is meeting customer demand for container platforms with the recently launched Red Hat OpenShift 4.
As such, Red Hat is recognized as a leader in hybrid cloud and modern application deployments in various markets, both domestically and internationally. In Korea, I will strive to lead Red Hat to continuously fulfill its role as an innovative and reliable trusted adviser for the successful digital transformation of the customers.
With nearly 25 years’ experience in the IT field, what do you think are the most important qualities for a good leader and manager?
The ability to help people grow. I believe that only when we can bring out people’s potential and transform the organization can we become a respected and trusted leader. A leadership team that understands employees, realizes their potentials based on communication and is at the field with action and customer-centric perspective is needed.
What are your key priorities for Red Hat Korea?
Continue our leadership in the hybrid cloud market and help our customers succeed in their cloud journey as their biggest supporter.
An open source-based culture including open innovation, collaboration and transparency is needed to achieve digital transformation. As a leader of open innovation, Red Hat can effectively support the customer’s journey to digital transformation and open source. To this end, I plan to contribute to the successful cloud transformation of Korean customers by maintaining and developing a united “one team” with our strong partner ecosystem along with supporting the success of Red Hat in Korea.
