The financial services industry is one that seems to be constantly changing - whether it be regulatory driven or market driven - and how consumers are accessing their banking and financial information is as dynamic as the technology industries that they rely on in their day-to-day life. Red Hat’s enterprise open source technologies can help financial firms and fintechs alike craft modern, innovative solutions designed to drive higher levels of returns and at scale. This year at Red Hat Summit, taking place in Boston May 6-9, we are offering a variety of financial industry focused breakout sessions and labs to help navigate the impact that open source technologies could have on your firm,  and help you understand your options when it comes to getting the most from your investments.

Creating a global distributed event mesh
Tuesday, May 7, 1:30 p.m.-2:15 p.m.

Events are like the nervous system of a modern enterprise, integrating internal subsystems and connecting external partners in a sophisticated, real-time network. Global organizations face the challenge of creating a large, distributed event mesh that spans across multiple regions, data centers, and different cloud providers. In the particular case of the financial industry, additional concerns, such as high-value payloads and regulatory constraints, create supplemental requirements that architects must consider. Hear real world use cases in this session for how to create a scalable performant and extensible global events mesh. .

Automating and modernizing payments
Wednesday, May 8, 10:30 a.m.-11:15 a.m.
In this session, Red Hat panel customers will share how they have created net new efficiencies in high traffic payment volumes. Processing across a variety of application environments, bridging modern and traditional applications, and creating new foundations—the panel will provide insight into how they have successfully and reliably scaled in their markets.  Got questions? Good. There will be ample time for the panel to answer your questions.

Building the optimal architecture for open banking

  • How to establish an API-driven business culture focused on speed and innovation

Cloud adoption in financial services
Wednesday, May 8, 3:30 p.m.-4:15 p.m.

Cloud adoption in the highly regulatory financial services industry needs to consider business resilience, with cloud models that are orchestrated for security and compliance.

In this session, you will gain insight from Red Hat customer panellists into how they have been able to orchestrate to enhance security and compliance and prioritize deployment.  Bring your questions to learn how you could  open the door to developer self-service operations, and how to clear some of the hurdles for successful cloud-first mandates.

Creating more engaging digital customer experiences
Wednesday, May 8, 4:30 p.m.- 5:15 p.m.

In this session, you will hear from a panel of Red Hat customers who have accelerated app delivery using an agile, scalable platform. They will share how they have overcome their challenges for resilience, dynamic and geographically diverse markets, their insights for realizing ROI that helped them improve customer experiences even faster, and more. Bring your questions for these experienced leaders.

Royal Bank of Canada uses agile workflow for patch automation
Wednesday, May 8, 4:30 p.m.- 5:15 p.m.

Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) is a top 10 global bank with a complex IT environment with over 1000 mission critical application owners, over 15,000 RHEL/Linux/Unix servers across different hardware stacks, across 5 different business units globally. These environments are all operating under very different business schedules and business needs, and with different software versions, all of which made it very difficult to maintain patch levels and compliance. Two years ago, RBC was falling behind and missing deadlines for maintaining security and compliance. Not having an effective method for patching mission-critical environments, put RBC at risk, with C-level visibility. At that time, Pratibha (Prati) Devare joins RBC and immediately undertakes to resolve this issue. Prati rallied her team and sets out to design an end-to-end automated process for maintaining compliance across these mission-critical environments. She implemented this design with help from Red Hat Ansible Tower, Satellite and RH Consulting. Prati's vision was for a centralized self-service patch automation process and platform, where her end-user application owners would be an integral and a key stakeholder, contributing and participating in this process. Prati and the RBC Team are well underway in their journey and have already increased security compliance 500% in less than 1 year. This is RBC's success story with Ansible automation.

Modern fraud detection: Kubeflow and Red Hat OpenShift GPU containers
Wednesday, May 8, 5:15 p.m.-5:35 p.m.

When processing and validating what is often thousands of transactions per second, a bank’s ability to make informed decisions quickly is crucial. Trends in application development have found an advantage in microservices architectures, event sourcing, containerization, and machine learning enabled by graphics processing unit (GPU) acceleration. In this mini session, we will present an integrated fraud detection solution. We'll also look at how Kubeflow can be used to monitor, analyze, and find outliers in substantial volumes of incoming payments data via AMQ Streams (Apache Kafka). The session will also demonstrate how Red Hat OpenShift GPU containers help the application perform and scale to meet the demands of real-world payments fraud detection. Attendees will leave with a concrete reference for machine-learning analytics applied to the fraud detection use case, powered by Red Hat OpenShift.

Deposit Fraud Prevention—Case Study
Thursday, May 9, 11:00 a.m.-11:45 a.m.

In this session, we will discuss how to provide an enterprise case management solution for deposit loss prevention using:

  • Red Hat Process Automation Manager 7.0.2 general availability case management application programming interfaces (APIs)
  • Out-of-the-box case worker/manager task inbox
  • jBPM forms
  • Task dashboards and decision tables—all hosted in a highly scalable and clustered high-availability (HA) enterprise application platform (EAP) environment
