From optimizing existing IT infrastructure to executing on their digital transformation goals, enterprises have a lot to think about - especially when emerging technologies may soon be disrupting entire industries. In our annual Red Hat Global Customer Tech Outlook, we asked customers what they are keeping an eye on in 2019. Blockchain, edge computing and developer productivity tools are top three. In other words, it’s all about security, data insights and application development in a world where developers rule the school.
At Red Hat Summit 2019 this May in Boston, we’re putting on our customer hat (it’s red, of course) and looking at what key technologies stand to make the biggest impact and the challenges and new opportunities they will present. To help you get started, we’ve compiled a list of sample sessions from the emerging technology track of the Summit session catalog, including workshops, trainings, keynotes and more.
Keynote with Red Hat’s CTO Chris Wright
Red Hat builds the platforms where innovation happens. To tell this story, CTO Chris Wright will be joined by customers and partners innovating in areas from operations to development, healthcare to telecommunications and banking. Together, they will share next-generation advancements that don’t just change one business, but possibly entire industries—all built on the foundation of Red Hat platforms.
Kaleidoscope of innovation: AI and machine learning on OpenShift—Parts 1 and 2
Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) workloads represent some of the most innovative, valuable, and challenging workloads today. In this session, we will discuss advances in open source, hear about customer implementations, and meet Red Hat partners providing solutions in the Red Hat OpenShift ecosystem. In a highly interactive and demonstration-based format, we will cover advances in the open source community around AI/ML, such as the Open Data Hub and AI Library; discuss customer AI/ML implementations; and share insights from partners into how their solutions play into the broader AI/ML ecosystem.
Edge—where 5G and IoT meet the new hybrid cloud world
Reversing the trend of cloud consolidation into a few, large datacenters for economies of scale, edge computing is now decentralizing services to many, smaller sites close to consumers and data sources. This change is being driven by demands such as increased bandwidth, reduced latency, service resiliency, and data ownership concerns. Red Hat sees edge as a deployment target for open hybrid cloud, providing a consistent application platform and experience regardless of footprint or location. In this session, we'll explore the drivers, markets, and use cases for edge computing, and how Red Hat delivers partner solutions like the virtual central office to facilitate modern 5G carrier networks.
The state of compute hardware and what it means to you
With the end of Dennard scaling, the no-brainer update cycles came to an end as did the excuses for developers and operators to not care about the performance of the developed and deployed code. We will not get free performance boosts anymore. In this session, we will take a look at the current and upcoming hardware technologies. Going into details will help make better decisions for developers, system administrators, as well as those who make buying decisions. We will also look into some of the projects Red Hat works on to help customers better fulfill their needs, which extends beyond the long-supported x86/Power/Z-series machines.
Emerging technology outlook
In this fireside chat, Red Hat CTO Chris Wright is interviewed about the current and future trends that are shaping enterprise software and what our customers can do to prepare for them. You'll also get a glimpse behind the curtain at various research initiatives, innovation efforts, and emerging technologies being incubated within Red Hat to address our customers' future needs.
The fowl side of networking
On the surface a duck appears to be gracefully gliding along without much effort, but in reality a lot of work is going on beneath the surface. This is a perfect analogy for nearly every product you're using in the Red Hat portfolio that relies on networking as a critical underlying component to help you achieve your use cases. These networking features and functionality include many exciting technologies that can accelerate your data, control and management planes, extend the functionality and reach of your platforms across the hybrid and multi-cloud and improve the manageability and operational benefit from your platforms. This session will cover Red Hat's existing networking products and technologies (both software-defined and network function virtualization (NFV)), emerging networking technologies being incubated and new functionality being jointly developed with partners and customers.
Security: Emerging technologies and open source
What are some of the key emerging technologies around security, and what impact will they have on the open source world? Equally, what impact may open source and the community have on them? This session will look at a handful of up and coming hardware and software technologies - from Trusted Execution Environments to Multi-Party Computation - and discuss the strategic impact we can expect them to have on our world. While individual technologies will be discussed, the focus of this session is not a deep-dive on any of them, but rather an architectural, strategic and business view. We also plan to demo an early stage project that will give you an insight into some of our development work.
