RED HAT + CLOUDBEES: Accelerating Software Delivery
Cloud computing and agile development practices are transforming the way enterprises build and deliver applications. Today almost every organization is a software development organization. To compete in today’s global marketplace, you need to innovate more quickly and cost-effectively than ever.
Red Hat and CloudBees can help you deliver higher quality software-faster - and less expensively, with OpenStack and Jenkins. Red Hat OpenStack platform delivers a scalable and stable foundation for building an open private cloud. And CloudBees Jenkins Enterprise is the industry’s most proven, fully featured technology platform for implementing continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD).
Connect with Red Hat in booth 311 to learn the benefits CloudBees + Red Hat joint solutions:
Develop: Hybrid cloud apps using Jenkins and Red Hat Application Services
Deploy: Hybrid cloud applications using pipelines with Ansible
Manage: Application updates, fixes, scale across a hybrid cloud with Kubernetes
This hands-on lab will introduce the key concepts of automating your developer team's infrastructure using Ansible® to understand common developer production workflows using the deployed environment. We'll explore Ansible topics like reusable playbooks, tasks, variables, modules, inventories, and cloud-native topics like configuration management, fault-tolerance via circuit breakers in the service mesh, and visibility into the service flow.
During this lab, participants will deploy the lab infrastructure themselves using Ansible, and then build and deploy a Spring Boot microservices application using Red Hat OpenShift® Application Runtimes. We'll also use the Eclipse Che web-based integrated development environment (IDE), and automate the build and deployment pipeline with Jenkins and OpenShift Application Runtimes.
Date & Time: September 17th 8:30 am - 12:30 pm
Location: Golden Gate, Ballroom C
Speakers: James Falkner, senior principal product marketing manager, Middleware, Red Hat, and Vince Power, senior solution architect
DevOps and containers can accelerate the delivery and deployment of cloud-native applications to myriad cloud environments. But to take full advantage of the deployments, you need portable frameworks and services that match architectural requirements and are optimized for use on the underlying infrastructure. Think of caching services, distributed data and messaging, API management capabilities, service discovery and fault tolerance, and serverless/FaaS frameworks necessary for enterprise-grade, scalable applications. In this session, you'll hear what’s needed in today’s app stacks to deliver all this and more while letting developers get the job done get the job done, using the right tools for the right job.
Date & time: Tuesday, September 18th 1:30 - 2:15 PM
Location: Foothill C
Speaker: James Falkner, senior principal product marketing manager, Middleware, Red Hat
About the speaker: James Falkner is a technology evangelist, teacher, learner, author, and is dedicated to open source and Red Hat's open computing philosophy. His career spans 20 years in the software industry taking on roles up and down the software stack, from firmware, operating systems, middleware, and most recently as a technology evangelist in application development focusing on Linux® containers and modern app architectures.
Automate & Secure Every System, Cloud, & Network
IT management and automation solutions help your IT teams work faster and consistently while reducing cost and risk. Legacy tools compartmentalize control; rely on complex, proprietary languages; and don’t scale to cloud through container-based architectures. Cloud-ready, agentless management and automation solutions help standardize processes, accelerate IT service delivery, and ensure compliance with policy-driven IT. This demo will demonstrate how to use Ansible for environment provisioning and application deployment in a Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) process using a Jenkins Pipeline.
Modernize and Optimize Existing Apps
Many organizations are faced with the challenges of keeping their existing business operations running, while also trying to innovate. This demo examines typical challenges associated with optimizing existing apps for the cloud, and tooling that can assist common optimization paths.
Build Cloud Native Apps
The need to speed up application development, testing, delivery, and deployment is becoming a necessary business competency. Red Hat® OpenShift Application Runtimes helps organizations use the cloud delivery model and simplify continuous delivery of applications and services on Red Hat® OpenShift platform, the cloud-native way. This demo showcases modern application development using best-of-breed open source runtimes and frameworks.
Integrate with the Istio Service Mesh
Istio is an open platform to connect, manage, and secure microservices. Istio provides an easy way to create a network (or mesh) of deployed services with load balancing, service-to-service authentication, monitoring, and more, without requiring any changes in service code. This demo showcases features of Istio on OpenShift and how developers and operators interact with the service mesh.
