The broad goals here are to modernise legacy apps (to create cost savings), and develop new agile workloads (to implement innovative business initiatives). ... And how about Red Hat's customers? [Says Tim Yeaton, senior VP of Red Hat's infrastructure business,] "The customers that we have the best relationships with often are the ones that come to us and say: 'this is kind of overwhelming...guide us a little bit'. They know they've got to react, but they're not entirely sure what to change first. In most companies, the hardest part is, you've got to get your development organisation to agile, and that typically means cultural shifts in the whole IT organisation—policy and process changes—before you start investing in the technology."

2017 Women in Open Source Award Nominations Now Open
Red Hat is proud to announce that nominations are now open for the 2017 Women in Open Source Award. This award was created to recognize the contributions that women are making to open source and inspire a new generation to join the movement. Two winners will be announced at the 2017 Red Hat Summit in May, one from an academic track and one from a community track. Spread the word and nominate someone by Wednesday, November 23.

Red Hat and Ericsson Announce Broad Alliance to Enable Pervasive Adoption of Open Source Solutions
Red Hat and Ericsson announced a broad alliance to deliver fully open source and production-ready cloud infrastructure, spanning OpenStack, software-defined networking (SDN) and software-defined infrastructure (SDI). ... The companies have long worked together to bring Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat JBoss Middleware to Ericsson customers. Today the companies are expanding the collaboration to focus on NFV infrastructure (NFVi), OpenStack, SDN, SDI and containers and help define the next generation of modern technology for the communications industry, including: upstream collaboration, solution certification and new joint offerings (such as a joint NFV infrastructure), technical alignment to advance container innovation and adoption, and professional services.

Red Hat Expands Mobile Vision to Support Containerized Mobile App Development Based on Modern Application Technologies
Red Hat announced the release of Red Hat Mobile Application Platform as a fully containerized offering designed to run in any public cloud, private cloud or on-premise infrastructure that supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Together with Red Hat's existing SaaS-based mobile app platform, enterprises now have a wider set of deployment options to integrate, manage, and scale their mobile app initiatives to meet their business objectives. The move to a fully containerized platform, Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, based on docker-format containers and Kubernetes, is part of Red Hat's strategy to provide a single, integrated platform for modern application development that is cloud native, mobile-centric, microservices-based, and API-driven. ... Deployment of Red Hat Mobile Application Platform on OpenShift provides a common platform to support mobile workloads running alongside traditional enterprise applications that need to be moved to the cloud. With the new option for a fully supported on-premise deployment capability, customers can meet their specific management, regulatory and policy requirements for their mobile solutions.
