At Red Hat, we pride ourselves on working hand-in-hand with open source communities to drive IT innovations forward. Project Atomic, a Red Hat-sponsored community developing Linux container-centric operating systems and related solutions, is a clear example of this work. We’re pleased to say that Project Atomic, by way of their work on Atomic Host, has been recently recognized by InfoWorld as the recipient of a 2016 Bossie.
Increasingly, IT innovations, from application development tools to platforms and infrastructure software to CRM and ERP applications, come from open source projects. The Bossies (Best of Open Source Software) highlight the best when it comes to open source software for businesses and professional users, with winners chosen by InfoWorld editors and reviewers.
Project Atomic provides a pattern to build an Atomic Host, which can be based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux, CentOS, or Fedora. Providing the minimum components tuned to more securely and effectively run containerized applications, the Atomic Host is an immutable host operating system (using rpm-ostree for simplified host updates and rollbacks) tailored to run Linux containers across the hybrid cloud.
In short -- Atomic Host is designed to let you focus on your applications, not the host operating system.
Join with us in congratulating the Project Atomic community on this award!
